Current Situation in Mumbai
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange / Yellow alert for Mumbai and its suburbs, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Low-lying and coastal areas are especially prone to waterlogging, flooding, and disruptions in transportation.
A recent red nowcast warning was also issued for brief intense spells of rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms over limited hours
In recent heavy downpours, parts of Mumbai recorded over 200 mm rainfall in just a few hours — leading to extensive flooding, subway / underpass shutdowns, and traffic paralysis
Risk needs to be addressed-
Waterlogging & flooding in low-lying areas, roads, and underpasses.
Disruption of public transport: delays or cancellations in suburban trains, metro, buses.
Traffic chaos and blocked roads.
Electrical / power issues due to short circuits or wet infrastructure.
Landslides / slope failures in hilly / elevated zones (rare but possible).
Overflowing drains, manholes, and sewer systems.
